Realistic Fiction Write Post

Why is it important to include many cultures in realistic fiction?

Good realistic fiction books provide the opportunity for all students to be able to connect with the text; many cultures have different societal norms that are expected or acted upon. By allowing students to connect with the text, then they will feel that their culture is represented properly within the text. By involving many other cultures in realistic fiction you are allowing for students to also learn about different cultures that they may not be familiar with. When you familiarize students with different cultures then it will make it more normal and comfortable for everyone when they recognize the differences in real life. This also helps students appreciate the differences in cultures and will help them understand why one person may have a certain point of view in comparison to someone else from a different culture. In order for realistic fiction to be a genre for all people then it must include all different types of cultures and not exclude certain people. By having a wide variety of cultures, you can reach a greater audience to connect with and teach more people about the different cultures.

What are the important elements that identify realistic fiction from just fiction?

There are many different ways to tell the difference between realistic fiction and just regular fiction stories. The first main element that separates realistic fiction from regular fiction is the characters and how they act with their environment. For example, in realistic fiction, there won't be any superpowers or technology that does not exist. Instead, the characters in realistic fiction in theory could be real but instead the author made it up with their imagination. Realistic fiction will also use a setting that is real or represents a realistic environment; for example, the reader should be able to place themselves into the characters setting if it is realistic fiction. Realistic fiction also usually "wrestles" with problems or themes that may be presented in the real world according to the article. A lot of realistic fiction books are also trying to "teach" the reader something with a good theme; for example, it may be about "responsibility" or "problem solving". Realistic fiction by nature requires less creativity because it technically be real-life whereas fiction can have flying people and aliens.

Daily Writing Challenge Reflection on Revision

Within the revisions, I added more details to the experience I have with coffee. I explained the coffee as my "warm blanket" and expanded on how it made me feel. The peer that I did the revisions with recommended to organize the writing more and make it more of a story. To do this, I started in the early morning and described the routine that I follow. As a morning person, I enjoy keeping things simple and relaxing. In order to add a negative side to the story, I discussed how coffee or this blanket of warmth can stain with just one touch. If there was anything that I could change about my "warm blanket" it would be that I could wear white without fear on the way to school. I also went into detail about what I do if I am heading to an 8am and have no time to make a fresh cup of coffee. It was important to mention the word "addiction" because it does make me the morning person that I strive to be although I would not say I am necessarily proud ...

Teaching Spelling Reflection

What did you learn about the topic? I learned about the importance of spelling and its relation to pronunciation and reading fluency. Before learning about this topic I did not make the concrete connection between spelling and reading. If a student is able to spell by sounding out then they will also most likely be a more successful reader. I also learned that problem-solving techniques for spelling are very similar to reading. Spelling is also very important for writing and making sure that your audience is able to understand the points that you are making.  How did your group planning go? Very easy, we made an iMessage group chat and discussed what we should do.  Did you communicate well? Yes, everyone in the group said when they would be able to work on certain aspects of the project and it was easy to communicate. Everyone felt comfortable texting and it made it easier to communicate as we are always on our phones. We also all have similar schedules so communication was al...

Daily Writing Prompt 2 (sensory writing)

On this morning, the dark heavy clouds filled the sky and stacked on each other like jenga blocks. The birds sang a triumphant song, it was my first day of running a 5k every single day that summer. As I walked down my front steps, I felt the bounce in my sneakers and the humidity encompassing my body forcing me to sweat. My lips were moistened, it smelled and tasted like a fresh misty day. It was time to start my fitness journey, my mind was ready but my body was not. I was about to be flooded with sweat, racing with thoughts, empowered by the sound of slipknot.
